Improve Sleep Quality | Online Group Counseling

Sleep Quality Counseling | Virtual Therapy | Alaska

Telehealth 8- and 10-week long CBTI (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) program for adults seeking to improve sleep quality, mental health, and physical health.

Sleep is vital to health and well-being and sleep disorders are common: the American Sleep Association estimates that 50 - 70 million Americans live with a sleep disorder.

Comorbid conditions of sleep disorders are: anxiety, depression, PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), heart disease, chronic pain, breathing problems, neurological problems, and diabetes.

Other groups that experience high rates of sleep disorders are parents of young children, college students, shift workers, and people living with a chronic illness.

CBTI is an evidence-based treatment I use to help clients find the skills to:

  • Develop sleep-inducing behaviors
  • Reduce the intensity & duration of racing thoughts while laying in bed
  • Wake up feeling fully rested and refreshed

Group therapy is an affordable way to access therapy while healing in connection with other people. Many people experience faster results in group therapy than individual therapy.

If you are interested in this program and do not believe group therapy is the right fit, you can contact me for individual therapy services

This virtual group therapy program is for adults who experience:

  • Daytime exhaustion, excessive napping

  • Worrying about next day tiredness

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep

  • Watching the clock and counting hours of sleep

Participant outcomes from this group:

Increase:

Knowledge of healthy sleep behaviors and routines

Understanding the connection between sleep, stress, health, and aging

  • Develop realistic expectations around sleep
  • Group members will be able to identify and challenge behaviors which contribute to poor sleep quality
  • Record sleep routine over a 2–3-month period
  • Improve frequency of “a good night’s sleep”

($25 x 8 sessions = $200)

Additional Info:

This therapist-led counseling group will provide group members with a supportive environment to learn new information and practice new skills.

Sleep is incredibly important to physical and mental health at any age.

People most at risk of sleep disorders include parents, shift workers, and people with mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).

To help promote healthy sleep practices I encourage clients to make small behavioral and thought changes with intentional reflection, while utilizing the experiences each group member brings.

These groups help clients find practical and helpful changes to wake up feeling energized.

  • LGBTQ+ friendly
  • Open to adults (+18)
  • Must be in Alaska for each session
  • This group may not be an appropriate fit for people who are in acute crisis

Women & Femme Folks

Women and femme adults experience unique stressors throughout life in relationships, work, and social settings which impact sleep and well-being.

Women are more likely to experience sleep disorders than are men (and women are more likely to seek professional help).

This group is ideal for femme-identifying adults who may experience difficulty falling asleep due to mental health conditions (such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or ADHD), unhelpful nighttime routines, or difficulty quieting that inner monologue about what went wrong each day.

Men & Masc Adults

Men and masculine adults do not receive enough sleep each night due to factors including:

  • Work schedule
  • Late-night screen use
  • ADHD, anxiety, depression, or PTSD
  • Sleep-prohibitive behaviors (e.g., caffeine/energy drinks, poor sleep hygiene, alcohol use)
  • Minimizing the extent sleep has a man's well-being
  • Low self-esteem
  • Social stigma that men do not need help

This group provides a non-judgemental, supportive environment for men seeking to build healthy habits with your sleep and mental health.

TBI Survivors

TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) disrupts many facets of functioning.

Changes to sleep are one of the most perpetuating symptoms of TBI's.

This group provides psychoeducation on healthy sleep and how TBI's impact the brain and sleep cycles.

Sessions will help members identify new sleep-promoting habits and practical expectations for adults with mild-moderate TBI's.

TBI sleep groups are typically 10-weeks in length to help support the evolving TBI recovery process.

Parents & Caregivers

Parents and caregivers of young children are the most likely group (in the U.S.) to have sleep disorders (about 3 months of poor sleep quality most nights).

It is normal to sense a mountain of never ending exhaustion as a parent. This group is a welcoming, no parent-shaming environment for caregivers seeking more energized mornings, easier afternoons, and restful naps.

Groups for Chronic Illness & Chronic Pain

Chronic illness and chronic pain sufferers experience difficulty sleeping most nights.

CBTI groups are helpful to adults with chronic pain because it can normalize your experiences, develop new sleep-inducing habits and thoughts, and identify practical expectations for sleep among people who understand what you're dealing with.
